You have to be blind not to see evil everywhere in the country. You see it in the language used "normally" by politicians and their behavior with people without a vested interest in power. MPs are the best illustrative examples, even the youngest ones who are not distinguished by any cultural value in speech or systematic thoughts to express the intentions of Lawmakers. You often see it in the arrogant language of Prime Minister Rama, when he addresses ordinary people. The language of communication used in the last few hours in Durrës and a few days ago with farmers was completely unnecessary. The anthology of words and expressions of former Prime Minister Berisha is second to none. The register down to the smallest details for families and the prosecutors themselves now "no longer make any impression (!)". You see it in the frightening economic inequality that has gripped the country. The daily life of the Albanian citizen has become a challenge. According to Eurostat sources, food prices in Albania are considered 1% more expensive than the European Union average. The figure might not seem so worrying if you don't consider that the income of Albanians is 41% of the EU average!!
Almost 50% of Albanians eat to survive. But the government presents us with macro figures, according to which GDP growth is almost 3%, which seems encouraging, but in reality does not match the daily lives of Albanians. The concern is added by a fact related to the transparency of economic data, where Albania is ranked among the countries with the lowest transparency on economic inequality, referring to the Inequality Transparency Index (ITI). “The latest map shows that our country is part of the group of countries that publish little or no complete data on the real distribution of income and wealth, making it difficult to understand the true inequality in society. The ITI index measures transparency from 0 to 20 points, assessing the quality, frequency and accessibility of data on income and wealth” (Monitor, 2026).
In literature, a society is sick because it cannot adequately provide for basic security, dignity and opportunities for all, favoring a few at the expense of many. The distribution of income in the country is another topic, as are laws in favor of a few. Today, it does not take much to understand, just as the scandals related to the Albanian administration have shown problems, which although they do not appear in international reports are frightening. We recall the scandal related to the ANA and the way in which the people of the administration were treated, but on the other hand how low-level officials are treated to understand this characteristic of the already sick society.
And, finally, although the list could be long, something about confronting the power of the media and its role to inform and serve the public, the way it is shamefully used to confront the lack of ideas and ethical debates, seeking excessive clicks through the untruths of some militant characters to the point of absurdity (often challenging uncontested scientific findings). They are few but enough to understand that evil in us has created its own environment, which is called normality, while good is either highly artificial or almost unbelievable. As the renowned sociologist Scott Peck put it best in “People of Lies: Hope for the Cure of Human Evil,” “Evil creates for those under its rule a sick society in miniature.” Isn’t our society already such a society, but little by little it has grown out of miniature and returned to real proportions. You have to be blind not to see evil everywhere.
