After being eliminated from the Champions League by Bodo/Glimt, Inter are expected to focus on their two main objectives for the season: the Coppa Italia and the championship. Although the team holds a 10-point lead over Milan in Serie A, the club's leaders do not intend to stop, warning of a summer with significant changes in the squad.
The delegated administrator, Beppe Marota, and the sporting director, Piero Ausilio, have long begun the process of renewing the team. Within a few months, several players are expected to leave, while the club aims to bring in younger and more functional elements for the long-term project.
One of the most likely departures is goalkeeper Jan Somer. The Swiss, who is close to replacing Andre Onana in 2023, has a contract until June 30 and is reportedly not expected to renew it. Inter are looking to invest in a younger goalkeeper for next season.
In the defensive department, the club does not plan to renew the contracts of Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian and Stefan de Vrij. All three have offered experience and stability, but the new strategy seems to give more space to names like Manuel Akanji, Alessandro Bastoni and Jan Bisek. For Akanji, Inter are reportedly aiming to permanently buy him from Manchester City, despite some fluctuations in performance.
In midfield, Hakan Çalhanoglu's future remains open. Although his contract expires in 2027, Galatasaray have shown interest in the Turkish midfielder, raising questions about his stay in Milan.
Meanwhile, Henrik Mkhitaryan is not expected to renew his contract and could leave after more than 170 matches in the black and blue shirt.
Liverpool's interest in Denzel Dumfries is another open question. The Dutch defender has a €25m release clause that could be triggered in the summer transfer window. The club could also consider offers for Davide Fratezi and Luis Henrique.
In the attacking department, one of the most talked-about names is Markus Thuram. The French striker, who arrived on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2023, is valued at around 60 million euros. Unstable form this season could push the club to consider selling him if they decide to sacrifice an important player to finance new approaches.
Amidst speculation about departures and arrivals, one issue that seems clearer is that of coach Kristian Kivu. The current coach is expected to renew his contract until 2028, with an option for an additional season until 2029, guaranteeing continuity in the club's technical project.
