Pope Francis' health condition is improving. One of the doctors treating him said that Pope Francis, who is being treated in hospital for double pneumonia, is not in danger of dying, but added that he has not fully recovered and his condition could still change.
" Is he out of danger? No. But if the question is 'is he in mortal danger ', the answer is 'no,'" Sergio Alfieri said at a press conference.
His medical team said the Pope was able to get out of bed and sit in a chair to do some work, but predicted he would remain in the hospital "at least" for the next week, Reuters reports.
The doctor said that since the Pope was 88 years old, with previous health concerns, he was clearly a fragile patient.
He added that the Pope did not have sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition in which the body responds to an infection by damaging its own tissues and organs. However, he said there was always a risk that the infection could spread throughout his body.
