Singer Celine Dion's performance at the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympics was pre-recorded, reports French newspaper Libération. "What we heard on television was a corrected reproduction," composer and performer Etienne Guéreau told Libération. Meanwhile, a voice expert said: "It was 100% pre-recorded, you can hear it from the first notes."
A musician known as Wings of Pegasus comments on YouTube that the rehearsal and the real performance sounded identical, which he says is impossible. "There are always differences between two versions of a live song," he said. Representatives of the organizers of the Olympic Games have refused to comment on the claims about Celine Dion's performance. They earlier insisted that the performance was entirely live.
The Canadian singer suffers from a rare autoimmune disease and has not performed in years. Dion, best known for her hit "My Heart Will Go On," announced in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. In an interview, she explained that the condition can cause muscle spasms anywhere in the body, causing her hands or feet to freeze. She also had difficulty with walking and singing.
Celine had performed before at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, in 1996, when she sang the song "The Power of Dream". The ceremony was watched by 3.5 billion people worldwide. The music star will also appear at Eurovision 2025.
