Trump warns Putin after Beijing threat
Donald Trump has reacted sharply after Vladimir Putin's statement in Beijing, who, for the first time publicly, admitted that if a peace agreement is not reached with Ukraine, Russia will take "by force what is rightfully itss."
In a speech delivered by China, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, Putin declared that “ Russia has been patient long enough, and if Ukraine does not accept our diplomatic solutions, we will solve it with the means at our disposal ,” an open warning of further territorial conquest.
Just hours later, from the White House, Trump issued a coded but strong statement. Asked if he had a message for Putin, he said: " No, I don't have a message for him. He knows exactly where I stand. He's going to make a decision, right or wrong. If it's a decision we don't like, you'll see what happens ."
Sitting next to Polish President Karol Nawrocki, Trump added: " My relationship with all of these people is good. We'll see how good it is in the coming weeks ."
He also did not leave out the military parade in Beijing, which he said was “ very impressive ” and added that it was clearly organized to show him Chinese power. “ They were hoping I was watching. And yes, I saw it, ” he said.
This statement was more of a warning than an analysis. Trump sought to convey firmness and readiness for action, implying that “phase two and three” of American responses are ready to be implemented if Putin crosses a red line in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Putin himself, in Beijing, not only gave no sign of backing down from Russian aggression, but reinforced his position with a clear diplomatic offensive against the West. Through numerous meetings with President Xi Jinping and other regional leaders, he presented himself as a leader who is not isolated, but on the contrary, more powerful than ever.
At the top of the agenda was the agreement to build the “Power of Siberia 2” pipeline, which will deliver billions of cubic meters of gas to China at favorable prices. This gives Moscow economic breathing space in times of sanctions, and Beijing – secure energy for decades to come. Also announced was the abolition of visas for Russian citizens wishing to travel to China, another signal of the strengthening of the alliance.
But more important was the indirect message Putin sent to Trump: “ We are not the weakest at the table .” Through the military parade, strategic agreements, and threatening statements, Putin flexed his geopolitical muscles in one of the most important capitals of the Eastern world.
In this silent challenge between Trump and Putin, taking place between the lines of statements and international meetings, it is clear that neither wants to show signs of weakness. Trump is trying to maintain the authority of the US as an invincible world power, while Putin is trying to restore Russia as an independent pole of global power alongside China.
