The United States has begun evacuating hundreds of troops from the Al Udeid air base in the Middle East, a move described as a precautionary measure amid heightened tensions in Iran and Tehran's warnings of retaliation in the event of a US attack.
NBC News reported that hundreds of soldiers have begun leaving al Udeid Air Base and are being relocated to other bases or hotels in the area. The goal, according to the network's sources, is to remove them from potential danger if there is an operation against Iran that could provoke a response from Tehran and endanger American personnel in the Middle East.
Al Udeid is the largest US military base in the region, home to around 10,000 troops. A similar evacuation of personnel took place in June last year, when Washington carried out strikes on an Iranian nuclear enrichment facility.
According to Sky News, the withdrawal of personnel from the US military base is part of broader precautionary measures as tensions escalate following protests in Iran. Reuters reports that the US is also removing troops from other bases in the region.
Meanwhile, an Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran would target US military bases in the Middle East if attacked by Washington. The moves are reminiscent of the period before the US strikes in June, during the 12-day war, when a similar withdrawal of personnel from US bases was preceded.
At the same time as the evacuations of American bases, Israel appears to be conducting "evacuation exercises." Specifically, according to OSINT reports circulating online, an Israeli Boeing 767-338ER, known as the "Wing of Zion," which serves as Air Force One for the Israeli prime minister and president, unexpectedly departed from Nevatim Air Base in southern Israel early this morning bound for the Greek island of Crete, as had happened before previous attacks on Iran. / Pamphlet
