The United States has seized another oil tanker bound for Venezuela, US officials told Reuters, ahead of a meeting between President Donald Trump and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
It was the sixth ship the United States has targeted for transporting Venezuelan oil. The officials, who asked not to be identified, said the seizure took place in the Caribbean.
US Southern Command confirmed the operation, which took place before dawn, saying US forces captured the motor tanker Veronica "without incident".
According to the statement, the ship was carrying out a mission to circumvent a blockade ordered by President Trump on ships subject to sanctions.
"The only oil that will leave Venezuela is that whose (export) is properly and legally coordinated ," he added.
The ships seized so far have been those sanctioned by Washington or belonged to the "shadow fleet" that hides its origins to transport oil from countries such as Iran, Russia or Venezuela.
