The deputy of the Socialist Party, Petro Koçi, has commented on the political situation in the country, focusing on the situation within the opposition, the majority, as well as the appearance of the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, who is strongly attacking the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK).
During an interview for "SOT" newspaper, Koçi says that Meta is in a mental crisis, while also showing the big mistake that happened to the former president during the time of Fatos Nano and the reason that is forcing him to go under the balcony to Sali Berisha.
According to him, Meta is a wild political figure compared to Sali Berisha, whom he idolizes. Meanwhile, during the interview with the editor-in-chief of the "SOT" newspaper, Rigels Seliman, the socialist legislator Koçi emphasizes that the union of Meta and Berisha will be an advantage for the SP. On the other hand, he underlines that the fight against corruption should be intensified.
-Mr. Koçi, the SP seems to be thinking about the upcoming elections, what is happening today that will determine the following months and how much criticism is due, should there be a differentiation between the SP and the risk of using assets state election, is this a recommendation from the OSCE?
There are two different issues, firstly we are implementing a political process which we have implemented since the beginning of the year, which started with the activation and re-energization of the SP structure, which has been carried out according to each polling station, we did some activities and meetings, we finished the election process at this level and then it continues with the other structures of the party, which ends this organizational process in June with the election congress. Now we are ready to elect congress delegates, there will be innovation as there will be 50% young people who have no other time at the party congress to give a materialization of representation with new admissions during this phase. With the meeting of the national assembly, we had 30,000 members, and we were tasked with increasing this figure to 50,000 by the time of the congress. We are in the organizational phase, where for SP this process is very important.
- Separation from state assets and administration employees, will it be difficult, will there be an encouraging call from the SP leadership to avoid something like this?
The SP in its philosophy clearly separates the party from the state. There are laws that clearly indicate who is a civil employee and who is an employee of the nature of political work, the administration itself has separated them. Of course, every concern that came out of the OSCE report has a reflection, but I believe that the elections in general have made progress in terms of the objectivity of their results, the shortcomings have been diminishing. The party that loses always has ready the song of lamentation over the election process, but we must try to neutralize any identified deficiencies in the coming elections.
-There have been several events in recent days that have severely affected the image of Albania and the government on the other hand, first was the DASH report which spoke about the presence of corruption at all levels of government and the much talked about documentary 'RAI3'. The government has a problem with corruption, what should be done in your opinion, has the responsibility to fight this phenomenon been properly exercised?
We need to make a clarification about the English language, because when they say 'government', they don't necessarily mean the government, but they mean governance, that is, administration in general, administration. And obviously there is a truth here and the government bears responsibility when there is a phenomenon in the administration regardless of the status of the civil servant, sometimes it is difficult even for a minister to react to an employee who is problematic since the status itself prevents him from developing a a series of trials that are problematic, especially with the former judiciary.
-Have you had a problem removing a corrupt employee?
- Today there will be a PL Convention and for the first time Ilir Meta will go to Berisha's alley, this duo can produce something in the future elections or is it your favorite rival?
The union of Meta and Berisha will be an advantage for the SP. These constitute an advantage for the SP, in the last two election rounds Ilir Meta has helped us directly with the way he approached the campaign and the way he attacked the SP, he went against the producer, being against the productive, giving us advantages since and we wouldn't deserve them. These give an advantage to SP, and I think that the SP race should be in another format and not between Berisha and Meta.
- Do you think that with Berisha you can have something different in relation to Meta, do you believe that he has a more significant part of the electorate?
Berisha's weight compared to Meta is more significant, Meta almost no longer has the electorate and as a leech it will stick to someone. The only one left is Sali Berisha, since they are early collaborators. It seems that this time they will not sell each other. But in a way they reduce each other's points, many supporters of Berisha seeing Meta there will not be energized but their batteries will run out. It's an advantage we probably wouldn't deserve.
- The SP will have an ambitious meeting with the immigrants of Greece on May 12, what will happen in this meeting with the immigrants?
The relationship with immigrants is not only a relationship of votes. Greece is next to us and if it were not possible to guarantee their vote from where they are, the weight of immigration is very important.
- Why is there no clarification in the Parliament about the vote of immigrants?
This is a matter where the relationship is proportional, as the vote is at home, so is it abroad. It's the same separation, preference. The problem is that in order to carry out the process, there is a lack of trust between the parties, but also in the technology that can be used to implement it. It is not put to the will of only one party, but consensus, but there will undoubtedly come a moment when it will be resolved.
- Do you have a comment about the debate on the "RAI 3" show about Albania?
RAI3, is a television which is oriented by very left-wing political positions and are very much against the right-wing in power. The attack on 'RAI3' is a tactic to attack the Meloni government.
-Feel affected by anything that was broadcast in the material?
I have not seen the material. I saw some questions answered by Mr. Agaçi, but the questions seemed out of place to me. I don't believe that 'RAI3' makes a show about Engjëll Agac. If you build a fable related to the agreement, then we come to the Albanian mentality and say you are not right, because you are Rigelsi. I think that's the absurdity of that show within the whole thing. I think it damages the Albania-Italy relationship and being on a public television compromises it. There will be no consequences in the electoral sense in Albania, but it damages the bilateral relationship. It looks like a blow under the belt for Meloni./ TODAY
