A 62-year-old man from Kosovo has died in hospital after being involved in an accident this Tuesday morning at the Port of Durres, in the scanner area.
The victim has been identified as Nexhmi Shabani, 62, a resident of Kosovo and a truck driver. He was hit by a truck driven by Nikolin Merdari, 49, a resident of Berat.
Immediately after the accident, the injured man was transported to the hospital, where it was initially reported that he had suffered injuries. However, despite the intervention of doctors, he could not survive his injuries and died a few hours later.
After confirming the death, the investigation team has continued the procedural actions for the full documentation of the event. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the accident, administering evidence found at the scene, security camera footage and testimonies of people who were in the area at the time of the collision.
Likewise, relevant technical expertise will be conducted, which is expected to help clarify the dynamics of the accident and determine responsibilities.
