The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime has imposed the security measure "prison arrest" on Eralbi Breçani, the son of the former deputy director of Tirana Police, Erzen Breçani.

Wanted since November 2023, Eralbi Breçani surrendered to Spain on April 2 of this year and was extradited to Albania two days ago.

According to the Special Prosecution Office, he is suspected of being part of a structured criminal group that was involved in cocaine trafficking from Latin America to European Union countries. The names of Ergys Dashi and Ervin Mata are also mentioned in this group, who are suspected of having financing and organizing roles in the criminal activity.

SPAK claims that, based on communications secured by the encrypted platform "SkyECC", Eralbi Breçani is attributed with involvement in the trafficking of a quantity of 446 kilograms of cocaine, seized in the Netherlands in December 2021. Ismail Zeneli and Besmir Murtati are also suspected of being involved in this activity.

According to the investigation, the profits from international drug trafficking were allegedly laundered in Albania with the help of his father, Erzen Breçani. The prosecution alleges that the former police officer carried out actions to administer and circulate proceeds of criminal origin, with the aim of concealing their true source.

SPAK assesses that father and son acted in order to conceal the origin of the proceeds of criminal activity. According to the indictment, the criminal group is also suspected of having exploited the positions of several law enforcement agency officials to obtain and distribute classified information, which served the group members to evade investigations and continue their illegal activity.

Investigations into this matter continue under the direction of the Special Prosecution Office.
