On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the EU-Western Balkans Summit and the "Declaration of Thessaloniki", the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has invited the leaders of the Western Balkans to an informal dinner on Monday, August 21.
Albania is also invited to this dinner, but it will not be represented by any of the heads of state, writes the Greek newspaper Protothema.
Most likely, the refusal of the Albanian leaders for the dinner on August 21 is related to the threats of the official Athens regarding the case of Fredi Beleri, which several times has threatened to hinder the integration of our country in the EU.
A few days ago, Prime Minister Rama also reacted to Beleri and asked Greece which country in Europe releases from prison an official accused by the prosecution.
The leaders of the Western Balkans and the EU member states of the region will be welcomed on the evening of Monday, August 21, at 20.15 by Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Megaro Maximos where they will talk about the expansion and the European future of the region.
This marks the leading role played by Greece as a pillar of stability, peace and energy security in the Balkans and Southeast Europe and its return to the Balkans since 2019.
The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, have responded to the Greek Prime Minister's invitation and will attend the dinner.
The following have also confirmed their participation: the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borgiana Christo. Albania, invited at the presidential level, will not be represented, while the leader of Slovenia has not been able to respond positively.
The leaders of the countries of the region that are members of the EU will also participate in the discussion. and more specifically the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Nikolai Denkov, Croatia's Andrej Plenkovic and Romania's Ion-Marcel Ciolakou./ Pamphlet
