The meeting of the Council of Mandates has started in the Assembly, where the lawyers of Arben Ahmetaj will present their defense.
Yesterday it was SPAK prosecutors who gave the arguments why they want the arrest of the former minister, while today it is the lawyers' turn.
SPAK has filed 3 charges against Ahmetaj and has asked the Assembly to remove his immunity in order to allow the inspection of the apartment and the arrest. Yesterday, the Council of Mandates met and there were 4 hours of discussions. Ahmetaj's lawyers, Henrik Ligori and Ardian Visha, requested that the hearing be postponed for today, as they requested time. Today they will have the opportunity to refute SPAK's claims and convince the deputies not to approve the arrest of their client. Meanwhile, they themselves confirmed yesterday that Ahmetaj is not in Albanian territory.
According to the sources, the decision is expected to be taken today, where most likely it will be voted in favor of SPAK's request and most likely on Monday there will be a special session where the vote on the report of the Council of Mandates will take place and the way of arrest is open to SPAK.
