The government has decided to establish the Transparency Board following the increase in the price of oil on the market, which has reached 214 lek per liter. The decision was announced by the Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, during a live broadcast on the "Top Story" show on Top Channel.
According to her, the decision comes after a detailed analysis of the market situation and recent developments that have affected prices.
"I have just come out of a long meeting at the Prime Minister's Office, with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Energy, to analyze the situation in detail. Looking at the progress of the last few days and the impact of the attacks of the last few days, we have decided to establish the Transparency Board. The Board is established by decision of the Council of Ministers. We have also decided to intervene in the excise tax price by reducing it to 20%. There are two acts that will be passed to the Council of Ministers. The excise tax is at 40 lek and will be reduced to 20%. We will take into account taxes and for the price of the majority there will be a margin of 3 lek per liter, while for the minority 12 lek per liter. Through this mechanism, we guarantee that prices will be controlled and there will be no abuse ," Ibrahimaj declared.
The Minister also added that the Board will meet whenever there are significant changes in the stock exchange, setting ceiling prices for fuel trading. Violations by operators will be penalized up to and including license suspension.
Meanwhile, just two days ago, during a conference attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister Karakaçi, Minister Ibrahimaj stated that the conditions for establishing a Transparency Board did not yet exist, implying that such an intervention was not necessary at that moment.
