How much does the air conditioner consume when we leave it on all day or night?

Running the air conditioner all day or night has become a concern for all of us, as it has its own costs. But how can we know what we are consuming and how can we reduce it?

According to ADSL Zone, a technology-specific website, there are some specific data that tell us exactly what we consume: the power of the model and the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of the conventional electricity price.

Knowing these two things, we can easily and quickly calculate how much the air conditioner will cost while we sleep.

As stated on the website, air conditioning units vary and do not consume the same amount of energy.

The final cost is significantly affected by energy efficiency, cooling capacity, unit power, home insulation, system location, and selected temperature.

To calculate and visualize the exact consumption, ADSL Zone uses a specific case - a device with 3,000 cooling units running for eight hours straight. This model consumes one kilowatt hour (1 kWh), so if we multiply this by 8 hours of operation, we get 8 kWh.

If, for example, the current price in Albania is 8.5 lek per kWh, the cost for one night is 68 lek. If we want to know how much we consume per month, it is enough to calculate the nights of use.

Energy saving tips

The air conditioner is known as one of the devices with the highest electricity consumption in the home, so ADSL Zone provides some tips for optimizing its use and reducing our bills.

It suggests choosing models with a lower cooling capacity per hour, as well as appliances with a higher energy rating. Appliances with an A+++ rating offer a reduction in consumption of up to 40%.

Regarding temperature, the website suggests choosing a moderate temperature, e.g. 28 degrees Celsius, instead of 22 degrees. For every degree of temperature decrease, consumption increases by approximately 8%.

In addition, we can turn on the air conditioner before going to bed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room so that we don't have to keep it on at night.

Finally, the insulation of doors and windows is also essential, as is the configuration of the device, the condition of the house, and usage habits.
