Macaulay Culkin has revealed the reason why he decided to leave acting in 1994, at the height of his fame after the success of the "Home Alone" films.
The 45-year-old actor, known for his iconic role as Kevin McCallister, spoke openly during an appearance on the Mythical Kitchen podcast, explaining that early fame had taken away something very important from him: his normal life.
“What I wanted was to be with people my own age,” Culkin said. “In most of the movies I did as a kid, I wasn’t part of a group. It was just me.”
He compared his experience in "Home Alone" to the film "Cast Away," ironically saying that he was almost alone during filming.
“People would ask me, ‘What was it like working with Joe Pesci?’ And I’d say, ‘Have you seen the movie? We only have two scenes together. The rest of it I’m just in a house,’ ” he said with humor.
In 1994, Culkin starred in the family comedy "Richie Rich," but after this film he decided to retire from the industry to live a more normal adolescence.
“I wanted to go out, meet girls, go to parties, hang out with friends my age,” he said. “You can’t imagine how many parties I missed.”
