English referee Anthony Taylor will officiate the decisive 2026 World Cup play-off match between Poland and Albania. The match will take place at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw and will kick off at 20:45.
For Taylor, this will be the first time he referees a match for the Polish national team. However, he is no stranger to Polish football. Sports media “ gol24.pl ” has brought a summary of his previous experiences related to teams from Poland.
In 2017, the English referee refereed the Ajax-Legia Warsaw match, valid for the 1/16 stage of the Europa League, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the Dutch team. Also last season, Taylor refereed the Real Betis-Jagiellonia Bialystok match in the Conference League, won 2-0 by the Spaniards.
Last year, the 47-year-old visited Poland again to referee international matches held in the country due to the war situation in Ukraine. He refereed the Ukraine-Iceland matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and Shakhtar Donetsk-Rijeka in the Conference League.
While he has experience in matches played on Polish territory and knows some of the players, this will be the first time that Anthony Taylor will directly referee a Poland national team match.
