Max Verstappen has been crowned world champion for the third consecutive season in Formula 1. The Dutch Red Bull driver celebrated without waiting for tomorrow's race at the Qatar Grand Prix after taking the points he needed to be mathematically assured of first place in today's sprint race.
Today's 19-lap race was won by Oskar Piastri, after continuous chaos on the track as the safety car had to be brought in three times. The safety car came on for the third time for a crash by Sergio Perez and this effectively sealed the championship for Verstappen, who finished second to the McLaren driver, taking the points he needed.

After the race, while celebrating with his team, he said: " A wonderful feeling. It is a great pleasure to be able to win this title, which we fully deserved. I am proud to be part of this winning team. I hope this positive streak lasts as long as possible, but now I will enjoy the moment ."
" We will not stop here, as the season continues and the desire to win again is great even though there is a lot of rivalry. Today's race was quite nice, but it wasn't easy for us even though we all had fun. The pilots used different tires. However, we wanted the points to win the title and we got it. I'm happy ," said Vershtapen.
Then it was Norris, Russell, Hamilton, Sainz, Leclerc and Albon who completed the points zone for the sprint race which provided more excitement than expected thanks to constant incidents, with only 15 cars completing the 19 laps.
