The Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, has reacted through a video published on social networks regarding the clashes between Democratic Party protesters and State Police employees.
In his message, Lamallari condemned the acts of violence against law enforcement officers, describing them as a blatant and punishable violation of the right to peaceful assembly. He emphasized that the right to protest cannot be used as a cover for actions that endanger the lives and safety of law enforcement officers.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the police officers, who according to him face challenges every day in guaranteeing public order and safety. He underlined that during the protest they were forced to act with restraint, even in life-threatening conditions.
"Gratitude to the employees of the State Police, who unfortunately, in addition to their daily efforts to provide more security to citizens, have to face with restraint, risking their lives from such criminal acts, which are a flagrant and punishable violation of the legitimate right to peaceful assembly!
"Solidarity with the families of the injured employees and all those who have followed with anxiety through the media how their parents, sons, husbands and brothers risked their lives from an incited and organized criminal attack," says Minister Lamallari.
Berisha on Trauma
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, went yesterday at around 9:20 PM to the Trauma Hospital, where Democratic MP Bledion Nallbati, who was injured during Tuesday's protest, received medical attention.
He also appeared before reporters alongside a protester, whom he claimed was hit in the head with a rubber bullet by a sniper.
"They used rubber bullets and hit the protester in the forehead, which poses a risk to his life. Protester Ilir Tushe was hit by a sniper without any motive. Bledion Nallbati suffered significant hematomas from being hit in the head with a baton.
"I tell you that rubber bullets can pierce the skull in certain cases. Ilir was hit by a sniper," Berisha said.
Ministry of Health: 21 people injured in protests
The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare informs that during the hours of yesterday evening, 21 people presented themselves at the University Trauma Hospital and the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital.
According to the ministry, 19 of them were State Police officers, one Democratic Party MP, specifically Bledion Nallbati, and one citizen.
"10 police officers, MP Bledion Nallbati and a citizen presented themselves at the Emergency Room of the University Trauma Hospital. They received medical assistance according to the respective protocols, provided by the multidisciplinary medical team.
"After treatment, 9 officers were discharged from the hospital, according to the doctor's advice, and one of the officers was sent to the QSUNT in the Toxicology Service, due to breathing problems ," the ministry explains.
Also, the Ministry of Health says that MP Nallbati has received the necessary treatment and has been discharged from the hospital on medical advice.
Meanwhile, citizen KK is being treated at the Trauma Hospital and is out of danger.
10 police officers have been admitted to the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center with health problems, mainly intoxication and burns to their limbs.
Of these, 7 officers received outpatient treatment and left the hospital premises, while 3 others, due to their health condition, were hospitalized for further treatment.
Foreign media: Violent protests erupt in Albania
"Violent protests erupt in Albania over government corruption allegations," is the headline with which the Reuters news agency covered Tuesday evening's opposition protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office and Parliament.

German public radio Deutschlandfunk, on its online website, writes that there were serious disturbances during the protests in Tirana, where thousands of people gathered.
The Italian news agency ANSA writes: "Molotov against government headquarters in opposition protest in Albania."
"The end of the speech of former Prime Minister and Head of State, Sali Berisha, as happened two weeks ago, was the signal for attack by protest groups," the ANSA article further writes.
