Ecuadorian media have provided more details about the mega-operation 'Costa' to crack down on the Albanian mafia. It is learned that drugs worth 346 million dollars were seized during the operation. Meanwhile, a politician and several businessmen have also been arrested.
This is the former deputy of the El Oro province, Jorge Salomón Fadul Franco, suspected of being part of the mechanism that facilitated the shipment of drugs to the European market.
The operation, coordinated by the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, involved simultaneous raids in the provinces of El Oro and Guayas. Fadul was arrested in a residential area east of Machala, where specialized agents searched a property as part of ongoing investigations.
Authorities transferred the detainees under strict security measures to Guayaquil, where they remain at the disposal of judicial authorities. The prosecution is investigating possible links to an Albanian network involved in international drug trafficking.
The political career of Jorge Salomón Fadul Franco
An economist by profession, Salomón Fadul began his political career as a councilor in the canton of Machala. During his term in the Cantonal Council, he requested leave of absence several times for health reasons and was temporarily replaced by his deputy.
He was then elected as a deputy to the National Assembly, representing the province of El Oro. According to official parliamentary records, he participated in legislative sessions during 2012.
At the local level, Fadul is known as an experienced figure in municipal administration and the national legislature. After leaving active politics, he devoted himself to activities in the banana industry sector.
