Amid the flames engulfing the Patras region, these images went viral and touched the hearts of thousands of people in Greece and beyond.
A 33-year-old Albanian, Olsien Muçobega, became a symbol of humanity as he transported a sheep on his side with his motorbike, saving it from the flames.
But this wasn't the only animal he saved that day, writes Greek media outlet Protothema.gr.
Together with his friends, he took the tied dogs out of the danger zone, frightened animals abandoned by their owners who had fled in the hope of saving themselves.
"Do you know how many animals we saved that day? And many were tied up... Running away and leaving animals tied up, that's not oblivion. It's a crime," he told Greek media.
Olsieni came from Tepelena to Greece at the age of three. Raised in a simple family, he worked from a young age to help support his family.
However, even after so many years of living in Greece, he still faces bureaucracy that prevents him from obtaining citizenship.
"I should have gotten my Greek passport on time...", he says sadly.
On the day of the fire, Olsieni was at the scene with friends, to help firefighters and residents who were dealing with the disaster.
His love for animals and sensitivity to pain were what drove him to act. "I'm crazy about animals," he says with a smile.
He doesn't see himself as a hero. But for those who saw his action, it's more than that – it's proof that even in the darkest days, humanity can shine.
