After a marathon meeting that lasted more than two hours in the Kosovo Assembly, Albin Kurti, Lumir Abdixhiku and Vjosa Osmani have given strong signals that a political consensus is being reached to avoid new elections and to form new institutions as soon as possible.
The parties have found common ground on the indispensable need for institutional stability. LDK Chairman Lumir Abdixhiku described the meeting as a good and constructive step, emphasizing that discussions were held on avoiding new elections and opening new chapters of cooperation.
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti also expressed optimism after the meeting, speaking of a “large and broad undertaking” with the Democratic League of Kosovo. He confirmed that talks are underway on principles, deadlines and institutional functions, with the aim of reaching the most comprehensive agreement possible.
Kurti said that the meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, where political developments, institutional dynamics and steps towards the constitution of the institutions resulting from the June 7 elections were discussed. According to him, there is a readiness and will to avoid elections. He announced that all these topics were addressed at the meeting, but that there is still no concrete agreement.
"The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, where we discussed many issues of political developments, institutional dynamics and at the same time the schedule that awaits us before the constitution of the institutions resulting from the June 7 elections. It was the first meeting. We all know that the day before yesterday the certification took place and, in addition, we still have four weeks before the start of the constitutive session to elect the Speaker of the Assembly, the presidency and then the government and the president. We discussed all of this. But we still do not have a conclusion or any achievement that we could share with you here. I am optimistic about the path forward, I am hopeful that the prevailing rationality will continue to exist in these meetings. It is the first meeting, since there will be other meetings ," Kurti said.
He stressed that talks are taking place around concepts, principles, deadlines and functions, hinting that the goal is a broader political agreement. He added that the talks will be transparent, but will also have a certain degree of confidentiality.
" We discuss concepts, principles, as well as schedules and functions. It is a large and extensive undertaking that requires trust and good faith, which takes time to implement. We will be transparent with you regarding the process we are in, and we also have the confidentiality of these conversations, which must result in concrete achievements so that we have something to make public ," Kurti declared.
On the other hand, Lumir Abdixhiku, chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, said that he and the chairman of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, discussed the "necessary avoidance of new elections."
" A good, auspicious step to open other chapters of meeting and discussion," he said, after the meeting with Kurti.
One idea being floated is the possibility that Kurti and Abdixhiku have agreed to the return of Vjosa Osmani to the post of President of the Republic. This could be part of a broader cooperation package between Vetëvendosje and LDK, which would give the next government a broader base of support in the Assembly and contribute significantly to reducing political tensions.
Although there are still no concrete details published on the division of positions, the constructive atmosphere of the meeting and the will expressed by both sides to avoid new elections give hope that concrete agreements can be reached in the coming days.
Today's meeting is considered the first step towards cooperation that could bring calm to the Kosovo political scene after a long period of uncertainty.
