The Prosecutor's Office of Berat has summoned the former Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi, to give explanations in the capacity of a person who has knowledge regarding a criminal case opened in 2022, for the criminal offense of abuse of office.
Referring to the summons signed by prosecutor Eni Çulli, the former minister must appear on July 15 at 12:00.
The summons was sent for implementation to police station no. 3 in Tirana, because the former minister resides in the capital under the jurisdiction of this police station. The prosecution states in the summons that if Çuçi does not appear without legal obstacles, his compulsory escort will be ordered.
The criminal case is related to the theft of 54 tons of metals in the Poliçan Mechanical Plant, where considerable damage was caused.
Çuçi is called in the capacity of the political leader of Berat, after the investigation has shown that he had communications with the director of the Police Mechanical Combine, Erion Zylyftari, who is also the head of the Socialist Party in Poliçan.
Meanwhile, in relation to the punishment caused, audits have been made and the findings have been made available to the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, who will probably be called to take evidence, since the Police Mechanics' Complex is the property of the institution that it runs.
Currently, the investigation is being carried out in the prosecutor's office of Berat, but if data is found that could implicate Bledi Çuçi or the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi, it is likely to pass to SPAK for competence.
