Bad weather 'paralyzes' Albania, classes canceled in some schools

The bad weather that has engulfed our country has caused problems in several cities, with the most severe situation occurring in Durrës and Lezha.

In Durrës, the most problematic situation is in the area around the stadium, the hospital and NISH Tulla, where heavy rainfall has caused flooding. Meanwhile, the teaching process has been suspended throughout the Durrës region, while the courtyard of Aleksandër Moisiu University is under the 'power' of water.

In Lezha, the underground sewers could not cope with the high level of flows, causing flooding in the "Besëlidhja" neighborhood. The most problematic situation was in the "11 Janari" and "11.2 Hectare" residential blocks, where the water level reached several centimeters, blocking the entrances to the buildings and making it difficult for citizens and vehicles to move.

Meanwhile, due to the presence of water in the outdoor areas, the teaching process has been suspended at the 9-year school "Kosova" and "Gjergj Fishta", while the numerous flows of the Drin River have flooded the state school in the "Skënderbeg" neighborhood.

Unpredictable rainfall and flows from side rivers have also increased the water level in the hydropower plants of the Drini cascade. Water discharges from the Koman and Vau i Dejës hydropower plants continue.

Currently, according to data from the Municipality of Shkodra and the Emergency Headquarters in the Prefecture, there is no risk of flooding. The Fierza Hydropower Plant is currently at a level of 280 meters, out of 296 meters, which is the maximum allowed capacity, continuing to operate within controlled parameters.

Meanwhile, in Kurbin Municipality, the rainfall has been intense throughout the night, with moderate and sometimes high intensity, accompanied by lightning. So far, only one case of flooding of a family in Milot has been reported, while the canals are at high levels and emergency workers are monitoring the situation. In the village of Adriatik, several hectares of land are under water and several homes are surrounded by water. In the village of Fushë Mamurras, classes have been suspended.

In the Mirditë Municipality, the rainfall has been intense, but so far there have been no serious problems for housing. The Zalli Zmesë River near the city has risen, but there is no risk of flooding, while some peripheral areas of Rrëshen are facing a power shortage.
