Dozens of farmers from several villages of Roskovec and Dimal protested at noon today to stop the construction of the Thermal Power Plant in Suk 1.
Unanimously, with placards in their hands, the residents have called the construction of this power plant deadly in their area, stressing that their presence will destroy an agricultural area of 700 ha with greenhouses, as according to them, not only the land, water, but also the air will get dirty.
" We are determined to stop this ecological bomb, which is being brought to our door, the farmers said, and we will protest strongly, just as the farmers rose up in Mbrostar i Fieri and stopped the construction of the incinerator in their area ," said one by the protesters.
Farmers have also claimed that the attempt by the municipality of Roskovec to pave the way for the construction of this power plant in the agricultural area of Suk 1 is criminal, as they have suffered enough from the dramatic pollution of oil wells.
"We urgently ask for transparency as we have not been made aware of this project" , said the protesting farmers, warning of a hunger strike.
Meanwhile, the construction of this thermal power plant has sparked fierce debates even in the last meeting of the Municipal Council, where it was voted down by the majority of the councilors from the left and the right, defending the 35,000 residents of this area.
Councilors have also joined today's protest, strongly opposing this so-called strategic construction. The right-wing councilors Dhurata Malka and Fredi Feleqi have called on the councilors who voted in favor to oppose this deadly investment.
Protests against the construction of this power plant, rejected in other municipalities of the country, will continue without stopping.
