Former head of SHIK, Fatos Klosi, spoke about "January 21", the serious event that occurred 14 years ago, where four protesters were killed on "Martyrs of the Nation" Boulevard.
Klosi brings to attention the chronology of the events of that time, making former Prime Minister Sali Berisha the main person responsible for this tragic event.
He said that according to him, the killings on the boulevard were programmed, underlining that at the time the order was given, the protest was "fading away", people were dispersing, having reached its peak earlier.
" I call this event no coincidence. It is a very major order that they fired on the crowd. It is absolutely forbidden, I was very close. At that time it was very clear, those shots, in my opinion, were programmed. They were not shots to protect the prime minister's office. The protest had ended, it had been two hours since it started, it reached its peak when people boarded the prime minister's office. So that phase had passed. The shots happened later, practically when people were leaving. So I am convinced that it was programmed and they did not want to leave without those killed in the square. At that time, and even now, for all the partners, who have been important for the Albanian government. But the problems that the partners have addressed in Albania, security has been a more important problem. So since security creates problems within the day, such as the one where four people were killed. So this took time and was not something that was done immediately and therefore for them security is more important than democracy. That day, Berisha wanted to show that I am the one who "subdues" this people, even by killing them.
And the next day he declared that he could have killed even more, even Edi Rama. So I say that it was a programmed phenomenon, he ran out of time and was in a hurry to give the order to shoot, to tell his partners that they tried to seize the Prime Minister's Office, but I didn't let them. All of this shows that it was a programmed event. If you look at the scenes when people were shot, the boulevard was half empty, there was absolutely no danger... This was the worst thing... The guards were deployed to protect the Prime Minister's Office. People were killed on the boulevard and not in the courtyard of the Prime Minister's Office. But with a great desire to show that he is "God" in this country, so I can say that the only person who could give or order was Berisha. No one listened to Basha give orders. It was a programmed event, I say again... ", said Klosi, among other things, in an interview on "News Line" on ABC News.
