Murder of Astrit Kalasa in Appeal, judges' meeting behind closed doors

The President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, called an urgent meeting with all judges of Albania. The meeting was organized after the serious incident of the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom of the Court of Appeals while he was exercising his duties.

It is learned that the meeting will be held behind closed doors and will take place in the premises of the High Judicial Council.

Astrit Kalaja was shot dead in the Court of Appeals by Elvis Shkambi on the afternoon of October 6. His murder occurred as a result of the duty that Kalaja was performing.

At the moment Judge Kalaja gave the verdict against Elvis Shkambi's uncle, Gjon Shkambi, who was a third party in a property case, Ervis Shkambi pulled out a gun and shot him three times. Father and son Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj, opposing parties to Gjon Shkambi, were also wounded.
