Invitation to meet with Putin in Moscow, Zelensky rejects Kremlin trap: Come to
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected the Kremlin's proposal to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

In a press conference, Zelensky said that Putin could come to Kiev if he dared.

"It is absolutely impossible for me to meet with Putin in Moscow. That would be the same as meeting with Putin in Kiev. I might as well invite him to Kiev, let him come. I am inviting him publicly, if he dares, of course," he said.

Zelensky also said he is ready for a meeting in a more convenient format.

"I have always said that I am ready for any format that aims to end the war and that really works. But in Moscow or in Belarus, this is simply impossible and it is absolutely clear why: because one of these countries is the aggressor that started and is waging the war against us, killing us, while the other country is its partner in these actions," the Ukrainian president said.

Among other things, the president stated that there is no official ceasefire agreement on attacks on energy targets between Ukraine and Russia.

He says the decision, which Ukraine believes is an option and not a full agreement, was an initiative proposed by the US and personally by Donald Trump.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine will be technically ready to join the EU, despite opposition from some European leaders.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed not to carry out attacks on Kiev and other cities for a week due to extremely low temperatures in Ukraine.

The statement comes at a time when Russia has been using the tactic of striking Ukraine's energy infrastructure for years, especially during the winter, in the war that is heading into its fourth year.

"I personally asked President Putin not to shell Kiev and other cities for a week, and he agreed," Trump said during a cabinet meeting, citing the "extraordinary cold" in the region.

"It was very good. A lot of people told me, 'Don't miss the call, you're not going to get this.' But he did," Trump added.

Russia has not commented so far on any ceasefire or pause in attacks.

Trump's statements also do not clarify which other "cities and towns" might be included in this temporary halt to attacks.

Already low temperatures in the Kiev area are expected to drop significantly starting Friday. Forecasts call for nighttime temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius for four consecutive days, starting Saturday.
