The Republican nominee for president, Donald Trump, has accepted the offer of American television Fox News to hold a debate with the Democratic candidate for president, Vice President Kamala Harris, on September 4.
"The rules will be similar to my debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his own party, but with a packed audience ," Trump wrote on his Truth Social social network, referring to the president. Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race for re-election.
His post was deleted for a few minutes before being posted again. But in a second post, Trump deleted his proposal for a "huge" public gathering on the same date if Harris "wasn't willing, or able, to debate."
Harris responded last month that she is "ready" for a debate, after Fox News proposed a presidential debate between her and Trump on September 17.
After Biden withdrew from the presidential race on July 21 and endorsed Harris, Trump said he would not debate her because she was not an official candidate.
As evidence of the lack of support for him, he said that former President Barack Obama had not supported him.
But Obama endorsed Harris a day later, and on Friday, Harris secured the necessary delegate votes to be the Democratic nominee for the November election./ REL
