Seeing as how a country like Germany withdrew within 24 hours, Greenland won't have many options left on the table except to surrender to the US...
On Sunday at noon, the German Armed Forces reconnaissance team departed from Greenland! BILD spotted the 15 soldiers, led by Rear Admiral Stefan Pauly, shortly before takeoff at Nuuk Airport.
Initially, it was expected that the Bundeswehr personnel would remain in Greenland, where they arrived on January 16, for a longer period. However, the German Armed Forces have now left, without any further communication or official announcement. The Bundeswehr advance group has not received any explanation from the German authorities for the sudden departure.
According to BILD , the evacuation order was issued this morning from Berlin. The departure was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. German time.
On Friday, a ministry spokesman, Michael Stempfle, stated at the Federal Press Conference that he did not want to go into details about the launch date.
"If I say now that it will be until January 17, and then it turns out instead that they want to stay longer, then you will say again: Stempfle was not specific enough. That is why I would like to leave it a little open for the moment. If you have doubts, you will have to ask the Danes ," he said before departing for Greenland.
-Is this Berlin's response to Trump's imposition of tariffs?
Admiral Pauly stated yesterday that they had held discussions with the Danes and others about the possibilities for further cooperation on the ground, and that these discussions had been reported to Berlin. They were now waiting for a response regarding approval in order to discuss further steps with the Danes. However, this apparently did not happen: The general made his statement yesterday at 3:30 p.m. local time, while today at 8:30 a.m., the soldiers were seen at the airport with all their equipment.
The 15 soldiers from the army, air force and navy arrived in Greenland on Friday as part of a reconnaissance mission by NATO countries at the invitation of Denmark. The mission's objective: to conduct exercises and explore possible training and future deployment options. The deployment was initiated after a meeting between the foreign ministers of Denmark, Greenland and the United States failed in Washington on Wednesday.
But after US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he would impose special tariffs on eight countries involved in the exploration mission, Germany immediately decided to withdraw its troops.
Trump also strongly criticized the fact that Germany and other European NATO countries had sent some soldiers to the exploratory mission at the invitation of Denmark. Trump explained that the allied soldiers were there "for unknown purposes." According to him, this was a "very dangerous situation" for the security, defense and survival of the planet.
With Germany being the first to withdraw, it remains to be seen how long other countries that reject Trump's idea will resist. Seeing as a country like Germany withdrew within 24 hours, Greenland will not have many options left on the table, except to surrender to the US./ Pamphlet
