European and world leaders have reacted to the tragic earthquake in Morocco, expressing support and sending messages of condolence to the victims and the Moroccan people.
The European Union is ready to support Morocco after the deadly earthquake that has killed at least 296 people, European Council President Charles Michel said.
"The news about the earthquake was terrible. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy and the rescuers involved in the search operation. The EU is ready to support Morocco in these difficult moments" , emphasized Michel.
Michel's comments came from the Indian capital New Delhi where he is attending the G20 summit.
A reaction has also come from the prime minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who expressed her condolences for the victims in Morocco.
"I express solidarity for the Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, with the families of the victims and with the Moroccan people, demonstrating Italy's full availability to support Morocco in this event," Meloni said .
France has also expressed solidarity with the Moroccan people after the terrible earthquake that shook the country.
"Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and we admire the work of the rescuers who are tirelessly helping the injured," French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday.
Immediately after the earthquake, the French Embassy opened a crisis center in the North African country, home to 30,000 of its citizens. Officials told CNN that no French casualties have been reported so far.
From the G20 summit in India, the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has sent condolences to the people of Morocco.
"My heart goes out to the Moroccan people in the face of the terrible earthquake that claimed hundreds of lives last night," von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.
She said her thoughts were with the families of the victims and the injured, wished them a speedy recovery and praised the rescuers for their "admirable work".
Even Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his opening speech at the Group of 20 (G20) on Saturday by expressing his "heartfelt condolences to all those affected" by Morocco's deadly earthquake.
"It is my wish that all the injured recover quickly. At this difficult time, my thoughts are with Morocco and we are prepared to provide all possible assistance," Modi said.
He is hosting several world leaders this weekend in India's capital New Delhi, where some of the world's most pressing economic and environmental issues are expected to be discussed.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the High Atlas Mountains located about 72 kilometers southwest of Marrakech, a city of about 840,000 people and a popular tourist destination. State television Al-Aoula has reported around 300 deaths.
