Greek MEP Afroditi Latinopouli has caused a revolt in North Macedonia after declaring that she is a "true, proud Macedonian", and not "a fake one like the residents of Skopje".
She supported Bulgarian positions on Macedonian identity and language, saying that the country's EU membership "will not happen even in a dream."
"Today I will speak as a Macedonian, because I am proud to be a Macedonian, a real one, and not a fake one like the people of Skopje. They are ashamed to say what they are. We have reached a point where the honor of Macedonia and Greece is being defended by the Bulgarians."
Their reaction is right, because they know that the current language in Skopje is a Bulgarian dialect and their nationality is Bulgarian.
"If you want peace and good relations in the Balkans, history must be rewritten, otherwise EU integration will not happen even in their dreams. Macedonia is one and it is Greek," Latinopouli declared.
Her statement has caused much controversy and revolt among Macedonians, who say they are a separate nation.
Greece and Bulgaria, meanwhile, claim that Macedonians are Greek and Bulgarian.
