Around 200,000 people gathered in Munich on Friday afternoon to protest against Iranian authorities, as the Security Conference was taking place in the city.
The protesters gathered peacefully in Theresienwiese, one of the largest public spaces in the western part of the city. They called for the end of the Islamic Republic, following the violent suppression of a wave of protests that began in late December in Iran.
The rally was also attended by Reza Pahlavi, the exiled Iranian opposition leader and son of the former Shah of Iran, who was overthrown from power in 1979. During his speech, Pahlavi called on United States President Donald Trump to "help" the Iranian people.
"It is time to end the Islamic Republic. This is the demand that comes from the bloodshed of my compatriots," he declared. Addressing the US President, Pahlavi added that Iranians had heard his statements that "help is on the way." "They trust you. Help them ," he said.
The demonstration in Munich was organized by the association “Munich Circle”. Some of the participants waved Iranian flags from the Shah period and held pictures of Pahlavi. Some protesters gave flowers to police officers. Speakers at the rally called for a peaceful and democratic transition in Iran, as well as the prosecution of the current leaders in Tehran for their actions against citizens.
Organizers also announced other demonstrations in Toronto and Los Angeles, as well as calls for protests in various countries around the world against the Iranian leadership.
According to reports of protests in Iran at the end of the year, the authorities suppressed them with force.
