The United States military used the artificial intelligence model "Claude", developed by the company Anthropic, during the operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the American website Axios reported, citing two sources.

According to the same sources, the revelation has caused concern within the ranks of the US Department of Defense and could affect the cooperative relationship with the company. A senior US government official told Axios that the Pentagon will reconsider cooperation with Anthropic after reports of the model's use in the operation.

Anthropic asked whether its software was used in the raid to arrest Maduro, which caused real concern throughout the Defense Department, suggesting they might not approve of such use if it turned out to be true ,” the official said.

He added that any company that would jeopardize the operational success of American forces on the ground is a company with which future cooperation should be reviewed.

On the other hand, an Anthropic spokesperson denied that the company has requested such information from the US Department of Defense.

Axios notes that it has not been able to confirm the exact role that the “Claude” model played in the operation to arrest Maduro. According to the report, the US military has previously used the model to analyze satellite imagery and intelligence data.

Sources cited by Axios claimed that "Claude" was used throughout the operation and not just in the preparatory phase.
