Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold talks on Wednesday with officials in the Trump administration, according to an Israeli source familiar with the details, in order to better understand the latest developments in negotiations between the US and Iran.
The source told CNN that Netanyahu is seeking updates on the state of the negotiations and is seeking to understand what is currently on the table. Israel is concerned, the source said, about possible last-minute U.S. concessions aimed at securing a deal to end the war with Iran.
It is not clear who Netanyahu has spoken to. A US official told CNN that Netanyahu has been speaking regularly with US officials to stay informed about negotiations between the US and Iran.
Israel is particularly concerned about the possible lifting of economic sanctions on Iran, the source said, and is pushing for restrictions on Iran's network of intermediaries, as well as its ballistic missile program.
In addition, Israel wants to ensure that any agreement preserves the Israeli military's freedom of action against regional threats.
