Chinese President Xi Jinping has held a telephone conversation with his US counterpart Donald Trump. According to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, the two heads of state discussed, among other things, the "Ukrainian crisis". Xi Jinping stressed that China "supports all efforts for peace" and hopes that all parties will continue to reduce their differences and reach as soon as possible "a just, lasting and binding peace agreement to resolve the crisis at its root."
Then, unlike other talks between the two leaders, Xi addressed the situation regarding Taiwan. Taiwan's return to China is "a key element of the international order after World War II," President Xi Jinping said, clarifying Beijing's "principled position" on the Taiwan issue.
China and the United States, according to a report by state television CCTV, "fought side by side against fascism and militarism: now they must work together to protect the gains achieved through victory in World War II."
In the phone call, Xi "stressed that last month's successful meeting in Busan, South Korea, led to many important consensuses" that "gave impetus to the steady progress of China-U.S. relations, while also sending a positive signal to the world. Since the Busan meeting, China-U.S. relations have remained generally stable and improved, which has been widely welcomed by both countries and the international community," Xinhua reported.
