Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will not wear traditional costume when he meets with US President Donald Trump at the White House at 7 p.m.
As the meeting hour approaches, one of the stylists has revealed the Ukrainian President's outfit.
Zelensky, who has worn military-style T-shirts, polo shirts and military-style clothing in public appearances since taking over the Kremlin three years ago, has previously been criticized by some MAGA Republicans for not dressing appropriately to meet the US president.
"This time President Zelensky will be in a suit, but the style still remains with a military key with the same symbolism: he is the Head of State, who is at war," said Elvira Gasanova, a Ukrainian businesswoman and designer of the Damirli brand that produces one of Zelensky's most characteristic outfits.
"At the same time, it is important to note that it is Volodymyr Zelensky who personally decides what to wear," she added, writes Politico.
"The president is now in a state where every detail matters: his appearance, his mood, his emotions. Therefore, as the Leader of Ukraine, he chooses the image that best suits his role and the moment," she adds.
Zelensky's fashion choices, which express solidarity with the Ukrainian armed forces and his war-torn country, have drawn both praise and criticism. When he visited the White House in February wearing a black polo shirt with the Ukrainian coat of arms, Trump greeted him with a sarcastic remark: "You're all dressed up today."
A reporter also criticized Zelensky during his tense Oval Office meeting with Trump. "Why aren't you wearing a suit? You're at the highest level of office in this country and you refuse to wear a suit," demanded Brian Glenn of the MAGA-friendly cable network Real America's Voice.
"I will wear a suit after this war is over, yes. Maybe something like yours, yes, maybe something better," Zelensky replied.
According to the Financial Times, Zelensky vowed in 2022 that he would not return to the suit and tie and shaving his beard until Ukraine's victory in the war.
