After the farmers, the Greek beekeepers also started the strike.

Just one day after the protest held in Athens by Greek farmers, this time the beekeepers have also come to the square.

Like the farmers, they also demand subsidies from the state, soft loans, fuel reimbursements, but also sanctions and restrictions on the import of honey coming from China and Turkey at a lower cost.

Beekeepers say that their costs exceed forecasts, while they asked for a subsidy for each hive or economic support for each kg of honey produced.

Also, the beekeepers asked to remove the restrictions to serve their bees in the forest areas in the summer, due to their prohibition to light the smokehouses, for fear of fires in the country's forests, an obvious problem that significantly prevents them from get proper beekeeping production.

They protested with their trucks in the center of Athens, blocking the road in front of the Parliament in Sindagma Square.

The government says it has little room to meet the demands of beekeepers, but will transfer their demands to Brussels, where the amount of European aid and subsidies for each product produced by European farmers is decided.
