
The Canadian government has ordered the evacuation of 20 thousand residents in the city of Yellowknife, Canada due to the massive fire which is only 16 km away from the city.
The Canadian armed forces are helping firefighters evacuate residents using Hercules aircraft, Reuters reports.
Hundreds of people were waiting outside a school to be transferred to the airport on one of five evacuation flights planned for Thursday in the neighboring province.

More than 200 fires have scorched a large area of land in the region known as the Northwest Territories. So far, about 134 thousand square km of land in Canada have been scorched by the flames of the massive fire.
Authorities warn that if there is no rain, at the weekend the flames will reach Jellou Najf, the capital of the region.
15% of the population of the Northwest Territories has been evacuated. Officials say most roads are safe, but add that if black smoke limits visibility, people leaving Jellou Najf from the highway will be escorted through the active fire zone.
