Devastating fires shorten final stage of Tour de France

The final stage of the Tour de France, which traditionally takes place in Paris, will be shorter this year due to the fires that continue to ravage parts of the country. The decision was made by race organizers and French authorities to support emergency operations in the affected regions.

According to organizers and Paris police, the change in route aims to facilitate the engagement of emergency services, especially in southwest France, where fires have required a large mobilization of security forces.

The French Interior Ministry has redeployed some of the forces initially assigned to the security of the international cycling race, making it necessary to review the final stage.

As a result, the length of the final stage has been reduced from 133 kilometers to 89 kilometers.

"In the spirit of national solidarity with the regions and populations affected, it has been decided to change the route of the final stage between Thoiry and Paris ," the organizers said in a statement.

However, the change is expected to have minimal impact on the final race standings, as cyclists traditionally do not challenge the general classification leader during the final stage, which usually takes place ceremonially until the final sprint on the Champs-Élysées.
