1 in 4 people leave the region, the World Bank four-point plan for their return!

The good performance of tourism, the construction sector, but also the growth of consumption has made Albania have a stable trend of economic growth towards the forecast of 3.3% in 2024. The World Bank confirms the progress in the regular economic report for the Western Balkans while emphasizing that in the continuity of this momentum, Albania should focus on the return of emigrants

"What we see in the immigration analysis is to create opportunities for people who have fled to return to Albania. To become economically active for connecting the economy with the diaspora. I think we can do more in this direction", says Emanuel Salinas, the manager of the World Bank for Albania, writes A2.

As 1 in 4 citizens of the Western Balkans lives abroad, the World Bank comes up with a series of recommendations for solving the phenomenon of immigration.

The development of training programs in cooperation with the host countries of immigrants, the protection of immigrants, facilities in the transfer of capital for the diaspora and the improvement of digital tools in their function are the points where these countries, including Albania, should focus.

"We see that migration is a major topic for BP countries and we see that it will continue. The reasons for emigrating are immigration policies, family reunification, dissatisfaction with the quality of the education and health system, and corruption. The diaspora can channel international savings, transfer knowledge and connect the economy to global business networks. The return of Albanians can help in employment and increase wages", says Angela Montfaucon, economist of the World Bank, reports A2.

Focusing on other economic indicators, the World Bank positively describes employment growth, poverty reduction and inflation below target. As for the pension scheme, it suggests establishing a sufficient pension for the beneficiary citizens.

“Our recommendations are focused on the balance between sufficiency and sustainability. We are part of this dialogue and we hope that the recommendations will be part of this review", says Emanuel Salinas, the manager of the World Bank for Albania.

Thanks to the EU integration process, the World Bank recommends to maintain economic growth and undertake structural reforms, including those in the EU Growth Plan./ A2CNN
