From toys to clothing and shoes, without even sparing the national flag... In the shops or markets of Tirana you can freely buy fake products. Mainly imported from China, you find them on display everywhere, waiting for buyers lured by cheap prices.
In order to limit the circulation of these products, in order to guarantee competition, the Ministry of Finance and Economy has submitted for public consultation the draft law "On trademarks".
Albana Laknori, intellectual property expert, told A2 CNN: "New notions are added to the law. Restrictive measures are added to the part of brands. Given that the problem of counterfeit goods is quite developed, then how can we limit it by making the institutions interact, with ISHMT at the top".
The new draft law aims to facilitate the procedure that a business must follow for registering the name, as well as bring innovation as far as international brands are concerned, given that we are already part of an open global market.
"It will benefit the country, the businesses, but also the citizens. It's just that we have to work on its implementation", Laknori added.
The new legal basis, among other things, is Albania's condition in the European Union membership negotiations: "Of the 33 chapters, chapter 7 is dedicated to intellectual property. We will align with the legislation of the European Union. So, this law is for good".
