For 4 years, the majority, although it had approved a resolution, did not put water on the fire, but above all, seeing that the world now offers examples of leaders who once used freedom of expression to gain power and then used the whip of autocracy to punish freedom in the name of "disinformation"...
Today the Conference of Presidents unilaterally approved the Special Commission for disinformation!
First, such issues, such as the establishment of Special Commissions for Disinformation, are of particular importance not only for the topic but also for the form of treatment. Even more so when the CV of this majority and government includes the infamous Anti-Defamation Package overturned by the Venice Commission and the European Commission.
Second, there is indeed a danger of foreign influences on democratic processes and disinformation. An increasingly growing trend that is becoming serious for the reality we are living and that without any doubt must be fought. But our battle cannot be frivolous and just to pass the queue. After a serious battle against disinformation requires at the end of the day the inclusiveness of political parties, civil society, the media and other actors, while the next "rabbit" comes out of the pocket of the majority with a not at all serious and completely one-sided proposal for the way treated and proposed.
Thirdly, a proposal that comes 4 years after a resolution approved by the Parliament of Albania, but which has been sleeping in its drawer and which today reappears accompanied by permanent potters but without any result. Four years ago the resolution required all agencies, state and independent organizations to produce reports and information on this important issue. Meanwhile, until today we have no result except the reappearance on stage of this special commission. Who was the reason for the suspension for 4 years? Who was the reason for his rise now? Unanswered questions!
Fourth, the involvement and justification of partners in the political battle of the day is ugly and naive. Under the guise of the fight against disinformation, neither the now global concern for this phenomenon, nor the support of partners should be used without being at least transparent with the process and decision-making. Using international partners as the key to eliminating the real problems of this proposal and waving the American flag whenever necessary remains the perfect albia to escape accountability and transparency.
Fifth, taking into account the above, we asked the Conference of Presidents for the necessary time for these efforts to be coordinated and for us to be really informed about the resulting commitments as well as the co-chairmanship. At the same time, we asked to consult with partners on what are the best ways to fight disinformation, without interfering with the freedom of the media and without misusing this form to reach the long-standing dream of the majority that suffered a bitter fate.
We asked for the time available, which was not given to us, to avoid the abusive use of the government whip that controls the media and to maintain that thin red line that separates media freedom from government autocracy that avoids transparency and accountability. This considering that for 4 years the majority, although they had approved a resolution, did not put water on the fire, but above all seeing that the world now offers examples of leaders who once used freedom of expression to gain power and then have used the whip of autocracy to punish freedom in the name of "disinformation".
Finally, we asked for more time to really engage in a parliamentary discussion the supervision of this commission, which cannot be power in the hands of the majority. Because the freedom of the media and above all the fight against public disinformation is just as important, if not more so, to the opposition.
Therefore, the parliament should not and cannot be an extension of the government that every time it seeks to divert attention, it also offers this escape route from the daily troubles that have begun to fall one by one like molasses to this government. The Assembly is not the servant of the government's troubles, but the servant of the interests of the citizens and the defender of their interests when they are violated by the government, a controller and monitor that is essentially inclusive. If you want another one-sided instrument in the totality of all the powers that today are concentrated in the hands of the majority, good luck!
