Alone, surrounded by new parties that want votes and power, hit by personal enemies who were once friends and allies and left without his main crutch - the Freedom Party, Sali Berisha is selling the streets of the country with the full awareness that this it will be another defeat in the next election.
Once again there were more reporters, cameramen and police than protesters. Once again, it irritated endlessly that several tens of thousands of ordinary people returning from work were forced to wait in the rain inside cars in kilometer-long queues, just as it prevented sick men and women from going to hospitals - all stranded. in torrents and storms because Sali Berisha has ordered that one should suffer because of him one day before Christmas. We are angry with the government, but we will take it out on you, although many of you may also be our voters!
The absurdity of blocking the roads has once again sat cross-legged on the map of Albania. This time, Tirana was the epicenter of an essentially illegal action, which in fact has been unable to cause a political crisis for months, but has already caused traffic crises on the streets several times.
There is nothing simpler than blocking traffic in Tirana today in the middle of a day heavy with rain. Traffic is now the daily decor of the city. And anyone who lives in the capital knows that traffic paralysis is one of the most annoying things for a Tirana today.
Of course, the opposition also knows this very well, which has decided to take out its anger with Edi Rama repeatedly on tens of thousands of car drivers who return home after a tiring day of work.
It is Sali Berisha's political style to ignore any side experiences and interests, and to look only towards his political objective. This direct approach has given him many political victories in the past 34 years. But what goes and is needed in 1995, 2005 or 2009, is not said to be appropriate at the end of 2024. Berisha's blind confidence in his personal intuition, mixed with the difficult political and criminal position he is in , cause him to attract a large party that once governed Albania in the midst of rain and electoral losses.
Alone, surrounded by new parties that want votes and power, hit by personal enemies who were once friends and allies and left without his main crutch - the Freedom Party, Sali Berisha is selling the streets of the country with the full awareness that this it will be another defeat in the next election. Although he sees the rock coming his way, he refuses to take his foot off the gas pedal. A forewarned suicide.
The Democratic Party (not Berisha) would need much more today, than some roadblocks that irritate drivers' nerves, to return to power. He would first need a president who does not have personal problems with the biggest countries of the world and with the justice of his country. He would need like oxygen an ally like Ilir Meta, who with the divorce with Kryemadhi has practically put mines in the entire political project that was once known as the party that decided the winner in the elections. Berisha would need an opening like the one in 2005, when PD actually managed to become the home of all those who wanted the overthrow of the socialists from power. Reality speaks differently. A handful of new parties today claim a significant slice of the opposition electorate. Although this could turn out to be fatal on May 11, Berisha continues to not see, not to hear and pretend not to understand. Fragmentation of the opposition produces electoral defeat.
In fact, Berisha remembers that he is living a replica of 2005, a victory like that of that year, only for the fact that he managed to cancel the security measure in an investigation that is still waiting to be judged. And while he is allowed to live in his parallel universe as it is the only solution left to him, several dozen MPs and high officials of the party are leading the PD towards a common fate with Berisha. They have decided to sacrifice everything for the Doctor's cause.
The largest opposition party is going to the next elections betting everything it has on the nostalgia and political fetish of Sali Berisha. A dangerous bet, an impossible race against time, the pessimism of Albanians and the courts. Neither blocking the roads, nor ignoring the other opposition, nor cursing Duman, nor the grotesque fight to save the Chinese Tik-Tok platform, which half the world is thinking of shutting down, carries weight in this obstacle course. So as we see on this rainy and windy day, this DP behavior is a Tik-Tok traffic crisis, not a political crisis!
