Some of its unknown candidates suddenly became electoral "stars" with unprecedented support, perhaps giving the SP a hand in getting an extra mandate in a district.
With the slogan “Albania 2030”, the SP ran a campaign that produced 83 parliamentary mandates (from only 74 it secured four years ago). But on the ground, the socialist campaign did not smell 2030 (meaning European) everywhere. Some of its unknown candidates suddenly became electoral “stars” with unprecedented support, perhaps giving the SP a hand in getting an extra mandate in a district. Without their help, perhaps the SP’s victory would not have been so gigantic…
From a rigorous field survey that I conducted after the elections (which will be published soon), it turned out that quite a few ordinary Albanians have the opinion that organized crime and dirty money have had an impact in specific circles.
For Albania to become an EU member in 2030, the 2029 elections must not simply be better than the previous ones – they must be good!
