Through this option, those who were disappointed with existing parties but were ready to vote for a new party could be singled out.

In my weekly polls for 'Voice of the Albanians', I noted from the beginning that old voters in Albania were becoming disillusioned with the parties they voted for. And starting from November 30, among the answers to the question "Which party would they vote for, if elections were held today?", I added the option "A new party, if created".

Through this option, it was possible to single out those who were disappointed with the existing parties but were ready to vote for a new party. While those who would not vote at all, no matter what party was created, were not of statistical interest.

On November 30, when I first added the aforementioned option to the survey, 22.5% of respondents who had voted in Albania last year were ready to vote for a new party, if it were created (see the graph below, which includes the most statistically significant dates).

On January 12, the “new party” share rose to 25.6%, and then dropped to 20% on January 26 (the lowest share in the chart). After that, the “new party” share followed an upward trajectory that peaked at 35.1% on May 11. But since a new party was not in sight, I removed the option for it in the poll.

With the start of the protests on May 31st, it seems likely that a new party will be formed, but I will add it to the poll when it is created (if it is created). Then the option will no longer be hypothetical – it will be a concrete option for a concrete party.

However, from May 31st until today, the “new party” has remained hypothetical. In the early days, it seemed that Qori’s party activists were the organizing pivot of the protest, but as the number of protesters increased and its focus changed (from the flamingos of Zvërnec to various other topics), Qori & co. seem to have remained simply part of a wider amalgam of protest organizers and financiers.

A few days ago, on behalf of the protest coordination group (whose members have not been publicly announced), Dritan Goxhaj read a list of demands, in order to create the idea of a concise political program of the new party that is being expected. But after videos circulated in which Goxhaj had publicly declared that the political rotation is solved with “Avni Rustemi’s bullet”, as well as several supportive articles for Hezbollah and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the reading of the list of demands of the coordination group has been read by someone else every day. Goxhaj has not been seen near the protest microphone anymore.

In fact, the demands being read tonight are very similar to the ideas that Qori has made public in the past. But it seems that he will not lead the new party, because he has been widely stigmatized as a neo-Marxist. Moreover, he tried to run in elections as the leader of a party, and received only 1.5% of the total votes (inside and outside the country).

Well, when the new party is created (if it is created), with a publicly announced leader and leadership group, I will eagerly add it to my polls. And then, we will see how many votes it can actually get…
