Why not Këlliçi once again for Tirana?

Why not Këlliçi once again for Tirana?

Belind Këlliçi could be the opposition's political candidate in the upcoming elections for Tirana, provided he is supported by the entire opposition!

If the Democratic Party thought politically, it would most likely have happened exactly like this. The same water can flow under the same bridge twice. Doctor Berisha, for example, has had this happen not twice, but three times. First when he took power in 1992, for the second time in 2005, and for the third time after he was expelled from his party in 2021. When he was strong, he allowed the same thing to happen to others. The famous motionists of the Democratic Alliance of Ceka and Imam or the reformed democrats of Pollo, he brought them back to themselves even when it seemed that they would not even meet at each other's funerals. And yet, he did not allow the same scheme to be repeated with one of his supporters.

At best, it did not occur to him, and at worst, he was suspicious and weak to make a strong act. Because now, after a series of countless losses, calculating the past and seeing the gloomy forecast of the future, Berisha no longer judges how he will win the electoral battles, but seeks to find the best way to justify the loss. The Tirana race is a "hardship" to be overcome and a drama that awaits the next stake against the "drug trafficking regime that robbed the will of the citizens of Tirana with the next farce!". The same as will happen and will mean for what will happen in Vlora, Berat and elsewhere.

Belind Këlliçi could be the opposition's political candidate in the upcoming elections for Tirana, provided that he was supported by the entire opposition! Proposed and elected by the DP, with the classic right and obligation that the largest opposition party absolutely has towards its voters. And this would be a political act for a political candidate in a race that is essentially only political.

The former democratic candidate for Tirana has been contesting the results of the local elections of May 2023 for at least 28 months. He alone launched a battle that opposed the crushing result against him and, likewise, formulated criminal charges against the mayor and his closest associates. In a noticeable way, beyond the props, behind-the-scenes or even the jokes that came from his own people, but also the numerous suspicions, Këlliçi led a series of often violent, occasionally grotesque protests in front of the Tirana municipality. It does not matter whether he was aware of it or was simply an actor in a drama whose text he had not read to the end. What is important is that he led one of the only battles that the opposition has won in many years.

Këlliçi may or may not have witnessed the fluid alliances that brought together friends and enemies, frustrated democrats and revanchist socialists, political interests and financial calculations against Erion Veliaj, but the evil means used in this case no longer count. The result, despite the paths that were followed and a game that far exceeded Këlliçi himself, is dramatic for Veliaj himself and his collaborators who are now in prison. Instead of the expected ransom, Këlliçi is on the scene only as a deputy in the Assembly, much less than his obvious ambitions and only a potential voter for the talented stager Florian Binaj. He is a victim of Berisha's fear that more than the slightest chance of victory, he now only seeks the alibi for the predicted defeat.

And worse yet, Këlliçi and anyone else of his age in the DP are the target of the syndrome of a leader full of electoral glory from yesterday, who is going from loss to loss. Now, the only consolation from the bottom of the political abyss into which he has fallen, Berisha has the fact that his people are even below him and have no chance of rising up. So he chooses not to think politically anymore, but only selfishly: May Qameti be done behind my shoulders! By throwing the river this time, behind the back of the Adriatic and forgiving the charming smile of Rama's lookalike.
