I got the population numbers that INSTAT just announced today and started updating the economic indicators on the latest macro framework that was approved by the government a week ago.
According to him, the GDP of the country is currently around 2431 billion ALL. On this income and on the official figure of the population which was until yesterday of 2.77 million inhabitants, the framework calculates that the income per head in Albania is 876 thousand ALL (2431/2.77 million inhabitants). Or 8709 dollars per capita, or 8059 euros per capita.
But now the accounts change. Due to the reduction of the population to 2.41 million inhabitants, the indicator of income per capita goes to 1 million and 8 ALL. Or 9660 dollars per person, or 9260 euros per person.
In short, today we are 13 percent richer than the day before. Doing nothing, sitting.
The best part is that we are now very close to being classified as a high-income country. The official limit of per capita income to be classified as a developed country and as a high-income country is 12 thousand dollars per capita and above. We're only $2k away.
If you look at the history of the last 4 years, it would take only two years to achieve it. In short, in 2026 we will be declared a developed country alongside the USA, Germany, France, Italy and so on.
