Two people who were part of a network that forged diplomatic passports for citizens traveling to the USA, have been arrested by the police.
DM and GP, both residents of Korça, have fallen into handcuffs. The police informs that investigations continue for 4 other people suspected of being involved in this criminal activity.
In April of this year, a 56-year-old GI was arrested in Rinas for trying to travel to the US with a fake diplomatic passport that she claimed was issued by an NGO called 'PBF'.
" The services of the Rinas Border Police Commissariat, in cooperation with the Special Police Unit "Joint Shield", in April 2023, arrested the Albanian citizen DI, 56 years old, in an attempt to travel to the USA, with a diplomatic passport false, which he claimed was issued by an NGO known as "PBF", based outside the territory of the Republic of Albania.
After in-depth investigations in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, several suspected citizens have been identified as being involved in the criminal activities of providing assistance for illegal border crossing, forging identity cards, passports and other documents.
The State Police, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana, with support from the federal agency DSS/OCI at the US Embassy in Albania, has carried out investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings, using methods special legal, at different times and in different places, mainly in the Korça district, regarding the trafficking of citizens to the United States of America.
From the investigation, evidence has been collected for at least 4 Albanian citizens suspected of being involved in the criminal activities of providing assistance for illegal crossing of the border and falsification of documents.
Based on the investigations carried out, the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Tirana issued the decisions for the execution of arrest warrants for 2 suspected citizens, as well as for the control of 4 apartments and other premises. During the joint operation with the structures of the Korçë Local Police Directorate, citizens DM and GP, both residents of Korçë, were arrested. For the GP citizen, the Court has set the security measure "House Arrest", due to his age. "- announced the police.
During the operation, various documents and electronic devices were found and seized as material evidence, which will be subjected to further examinations.
