
An Albanian businessman has been handcuffed as part of an operation by the Greek Police after he is suspected of stealing heavy machinery as the owner of a company that won public tenders.
He is accused of at least three cases, according to what the Greek media write.
Although the name of the businessman in question is not made public, it is known that the mayor of Lamia in Greece, Panourgias Papaioanou, also a shareholder in the city's football team, became his victim.
To the latter, the criminal group consisting of two Albanian men and two women, stole 2 excavators worth 245 thousand euros, an event that happened last Tuesday in Ftiotidha. One of the excavators has been found, but the other has not yet. The Greek police believe it is inside Greek territory, as the criminal group is not believed to have had time to traffic it into Albania.

The Greek police have discovered a group of Albanians who were stealing heavy vehicles in Greece, such as excavators, with the aim of trafficking in Albania. 2 Albanians were arrested and 2 Albanian women were declared wanted, while 3 thefts worth 645 thousand euros were discovered.
The operation of the Greek police took place in Ioannina, where the arrests were made while the police seized a truck and a luxury vehicle with Albanian license plates as well as some of the stolen heavy vehicles. In particular, according to police investigations, the suspects, at least since September, possessing the right knowledge and tools, have joined together to steal construction machinery from different regions of the country.
As for the way of working, after they have located the construction machines in the construction site, then using trucks with trailers they have transported them to other areas to hide them, while during the movement of the trucks they have used cars to control the road . Their ultimate goal was to transport the stolen construction machinery out of Greece, where they would resell it whole or as spare parts, expecting huge profits.
After the above actions, it was found that they are involved in the following cases:
1. The theft of two excavators, with a total value of 245,000 euros, which occurred on the morning of 28.11.2023 in the area of Fthiotida, of which one of them was found and handed over to the owner.
2. Theft of a land machine, worth 100,000 euros, which occurred in the early hours of 23.11.2023 in the area of Ioannina, which was discovered on 26.11.2023 in the area of Igoumenica, loaded in a trailer with a bed flat and handed over to the owner.
3. Theft of a cabin and engine, with a total value of 300,000 euros, which were dismantled by an excavator with a crawler from the Etoloakarnania area on 18.10.2023.
As part of the investigations, among other things, the truck and two trailers, used in each of the theft cases in Ioannina and Ftiotidha, were seized, 2 cars which were used as precursors in the above thefts, 4 mobile phones, GPS trackers and cameras, clothing work and gloves and wrenches and various tools.

The "master" of the group was a 45-year-old man, who, according to the prosecutor's investigation, is suspected of owning a company in Albania that undertakes public works in the neighboring country. Also, the information that arrived in the city of Ioannina said that the 45-year-old lived a luxurious life and lived in a luxurious villa as it seems that his "works" were going from good to better.
