The "king" of a drug gang that imported millions of pounds worth of cocaine has been jailed for 24 years.
The news was announced by the British media, according to which it is about the 37-year-old Albanian Helios Nanaj, a resident of Smugglers Way, London, who was found guilty at the Gloucestershire Court of Croën for importing and supplying drugs.
Judge Rupert Lowe said he was the "big boss" and "organizer" of the gang. Gloucestershire Police said this is the "biggest ever" prosecution of this drug group and has had a major impact on crime levels.
Nanaj was found guilty on December 7 of four counts of 'organisation to supply a controlled class A drug' and one of 'organisation to import drugs'. Originally from Albania, he ran a vast criminal network that imported hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into the UK and distributed the illegal drug in Gloucestershire and across the country using numerous couriers and safe houses.
The court heard Nanaj entered the UK illegally in the back of a lorry when he was 15 and admitted he had been involved in organized crime for 20 years.
"Turning to organized crime in your adopted country was a foolish and dangerous way to provide for you and your family, as well as being morally wrong. You put your family at risk of losing you, it's your fault they've lost you for so long," said Judge Lowe.
Messages found by police on Nanaj's phone showed he was also teaching other high-level drug dealers how to set up their own cocaine importing business. "According to the evidence he supplied over 500 kilograms of cocaine and he was complaining that he had £1.6m and he couldn't move it out of the country."
Nanaj had claimed to be a construction worker and the messages show he was trying to get his money to Amsterdam or Albania.
